ATI Radeon HD 5970 preview
The introduction of the Radeon HD 5970 is not unlike back in 2005 when Bugatti showed their Veyron super car to the world: With two very powerful engines merged together and offering nothing less than an abundance of horse power and unprecedented performance. This is exactly what ATI has done: They have taken two already impressive graphics processors, combined them and then reduced the frequency ever so slightly making power consumption and generated heat more manageable.
End result: The Radeon HD 5970, which most of us had expected would be called the 5870 X2. The most remarkable feature in relation to the producer’s previous dual-GPU graphics card – the Radeon 4870 X2 – is that just as it was the case with the Nvidia GeForce GTX 295, there are now two graphic units on a single circuit board.
